Tessa de Jong uses a collage style incorporating many different materials in her illustrative artworks. Much of her work is done in book form; a series of Art Journals referred to as the Chaotic Black Books.

The naive girls depicted in the Chaotic Black Books look at the world around them in their own unique way. Self willed, passionate, and sometimes a bit cranky, they invent the strangest texts in three different languages. Common topics are: grief, the night, sleep, wakefulness and dreams, love, wrestling with different emotions: in short, a striking commentary on everyday things we all can recognize..

Nursery rhymes, fairy tales and (sometimes scrambled) proverbs and sayings are also grist for the artistic mill and original eye of common on the work of Tessa de Jong.
