Description[]
Yarn bombing (a.k.a. yarnbombing, yarnstorming, guerrilla knitting, or graffiti knitting) is street art for people who enjoy knitting and/or crocheting. Instead of using chalk or spray paint, like graffiti artists do, yarn bombers knit or crochet colorful installations that can be affixed to a public object. Examples include lampposts, bike racks, trees, phone booths, fences, parking meters, and sculptures. Although they can last for many years, yarn bombs are considered non-permanent, and if deemed absolutely necessary, they can be easily removed. Furthermore, the purpose of yarn bombing is to reclaim and beautify normally sterile and cold public objects. Therefore, yarn bombing, although technically illegal, is practically never prosecuted, and is in fact quite a safe activity, as groups have spread worldwide.
